A proposal for a villa on the coast southeast of Split. The site lies at the base of a steep slope below the coastal highway which leads between Split and the municipality of Gradac. The house consists of a simple composition of forms which stretch themselves out into the surroundings in all directions with various covered terraces and garden rooms which give varied experiences of shade and shelter. The entrance courtyard at the bottom of the access ramp leads in to a high entrance room which offers a framed view to the horizon and access to the bedrooms placed on either side. The living rooms are placed on the lower level where the sitting rooms, kitchen and a studio receive a direct connection to the lower garden with a pool and terraces in proximity to the beach. The interiors are light and spacious with wooden floors and plastered walls and ceilings. To the east is a separate part of the house with a separate entrance which can become an individual home for an older teenager or a rental apartment.

In the garden, open spaces with white gravel and white stone tiles express the beauty of emptiness and an austere elegance. The empty spaces invoke an invisible force which establishes a deep relationship between the stones, water, plants and the unconscious and create simple places for the inhabitants in the coastal terrain. The terrace walls made of local stone become a background for bushes and other dense ground-covers. By experiencing nature in different forms, one can sense and appreciate the transience of all living things and contemplate how to live a fulfilling life. The garden's strict forms in contrast to the terrain and vegetation in the surroundings remind the inhabitants that we live in an artificial cultural world which we create ourselves out from that which is given in our surroundings. The garden becomes a place where one can observe oneself as one really is, and see past all which is contingent in life. In the garden spaces one is invited to become immersed in the present state of the world, the absolute truth. Things exist here as they are - the stones, the plants, the water.

Et forslag til en bolig ved kysten sørøst for Split. Tomten ligger ved bunnen av en bratt helning under kystveien som leder mellom Split og kommunen Gradac. Huset består av en enkel sammensetning av former som strekker seg ut i omgivelsene i alle retninger med forskjellige overbygde terrasser og hagerom som gir varierte opplevelser av skygge og ly. Forplassen ved bunnen av adkomstrampen fører inn mot et høyt inngangsrom som byr på innrammet utsikt til havet og gir adkomst til soverommene plassert til begge sider. Oppholdsrommene er plassert i underetasjen der stua, kjøkkenet og et studio får direkte tilknytning til den nedre hagen med basseng og terrasser i nærheten av stranda. Interiøret er lyst og romslig med tregulv og pussete vegger og himlinger. I øst er en adskilt del av huset med egen inngang og terrasse som kan bli en bolig til en eldre tenåring eller en utleiebolig.

I hagen uttrykker åpne rom med hvit grus og hvite steinheller tomhetens skjønnhet og en stram eleganse. De tomme rommene framkaller en usynlig kraft som etablerer et djupt forhold mellom steinene, vannet, plantene og ubevisstheten og danner enkle steder til beboerne i kystterrenget. Terrassemurer i stedlig stein blir et bakteppe for busker og andre tettvoksende bunndekker. Ved å oppleve naturen i forskjellige former kan en komme i stand til å oppfatte og sette pris på alle levende veseners forgjengelighet og vurdere hvordan en kan leve et fullt liv. Hagens strenge former i kontrast til terrenget og vegetasjonen i omgivelsene minner beboerne på at vi bor i en kunstig kulturverden som vi selv skaper ut fra det som er gitt rundt oss. Hagen blir et sted der en kan observere sitt faktiske selv og se forbi alt som er vilkårlig i livet. I hagerommene blir man ført inn i verdens nåværende tilstand, den absolutte sannheten. Ting eksisterer her slik som de er - steinene, plantene, vannet.
