An addition to an existing house on Nordstrand in Oslo. The house is a so-called "våningshus" from Husbanken, originally built in 1951. It consists of two levels and a cellar. The house has a pitched roof with a dormer window on the west side. In 1993 the kitchen was expanded in an addition on the south side. On the east facade is a smaller addition which contains a garage and entrance room.

The existing addition to the east is planned to be removed, and a new addition in two levels is constructed up on the footprint of the old one. On the first level there is an expanded garage, a covered entrance area and an entrance room which maintains the connection with the garden on the south side. On the second level are two bedrooms. The new addition lies on approximately the same terrain level as the existing garage, and inside it is attached to the existing stair landing.

The new addition is given a volume and form which makes it appear visually as clearly subordinate to the house's main volume. The design ensures that the addition appears to be related to the character of the existing house, while there is simultaneously allowed a freer play with the windows, materials and details that mark it as a new space and a new part of the house's long history.

En utvidelse av et eksisterende hus på Nordstrand i Oslo kommune. Boligen er et våningshus fra Husbanken, opprinnelig bygd 1951. Det består av to etasjer og kjeller. Huset har saltak med én ark på vestsiden. I 1993 blei kjøkkenet utvidet i et tilbygg på sørfasaden. På østfasaden er et mindre tilbygg med garasje og inngangsparti.

Tilbygget med garasjen på østfasaden skal rives, og et nytt tilbygg i 2 etasjer er planlagt oppført på fotavtrykket til det gamle. I 1. etasje er det planlagt en ny, utvidet garasje, overdekket inngangsparti og vindfang som opprettholder gangforbindelsen igjennom til hagen på sørsiden. I 2. etasje er det planlagt to soverom. Det nye tilbygget ligger på sirka samme nivå som den eksisterende garasjen, og innvendig kobles det på det eksisterende trappereposet.

Tilbygget er gitt et volum og form som gjør at det framstår visuelt som tydelig underordnet husets hovedvolum. Utformingen gjør at tilbygget får slektskap med det eksisterende husets karakter, samtidig som det tillates et friere spill med vinduer, materialer og detaljer som markerer det som en ny del av huset og en ny del av husets lange historie.
