Recently I helped a friend Max design an exhibition space for his company Lavkarbonbygg (Eng. "Low Carbon Construction") that is involved in the promotion and procurement of an assortment of ecologically conscious building materials including foam glass foundations, acoustic boards made of sea wool, clay wall boards, clay paint, recycled wool insulation and compressed earth blocks. He also does LCA-consulting and holds a variety of workshops, among other things. A valuable partner to have on a team! He and his company can be found at www.lavkarbonbygg.no.
The exhibition space is in itself made out of a variety of the materials that Lavkarbonbygg is involved in procuring and selling on the Norwegian market. The back wall is made of three Ecococon panels (a light wood frame with straw insulation). Two other columns are made of a stack of clay bricks and a segment of a stud wall with I-profiles respectively (alternatively a stack of Ecococon-blocks). On top of this structure we created a simple wood roof, and between the rafters there are hung sea wool boards. Around the house in the rest of the exhibition there can be found various product displays, including the beautiful and unique tables made of micro-cement by Handcrafted Oslo (https://www.handcraftedosl.no/).
This little house stood first for a few days at Oslo Design Week in September, and for the rest of the year it will be visible (along with all of the materials and product displays) at the collective "Construction City" in Oslo (Standardveien 1). If you happen to be in Oslo, it is worth stopping by for a look.
This exhibition was hand-built, disassembled and re-assembled and moved to these various locations by Max himself, and I think he did a very solid job!
I try to make use of as many of these materials as possible in the spaces that I design. It is fantastic to have a local dealer to work with.
